Beside Champions League and European Championship games Massimo Busacca supervised World Championship matches in 2006.

This year, he was againn called up by FIFA as one of the 30 referees to direct the World Championship games in South Africa – the highest honor a referee can achieve.

In addition, Busacca was voted Referee of the Year five times in a row in his home country Switzerland.
